Such is life!

My first phone call of the morning was from my previous office, wishing me a Happy Birthday! It made me realize that today is my official birthday (my working parents packed me off to school at the earliest for their convenience) and things havent stopped since then.

Next, I was greeted by the 2 receptionist as soon as i entered my current office. 20 mins later, I have a beautiful card from the HR deptt with the HR girls singing a loud and sweet 'Happy Birthday'. This was followed by a big round of applause.

One by one, everyone is coming and wishing me in the warmest possible way. And this will continue throughout the day, ending with a big cake and more singing...(here comes another one, 'Thank you', I say).

And throughout, I have the feeling of an imposter...like...you know...I'm not the right guy...well actually I am the right guy, but its not my birthday today...My real one is on...blah blah blah
(and here comes another one..."Thanks a lot man", i say)

Am dreading the next person's wishes...stupidly feel that i am cheating them...things are wierd!

And here comes another one with a warm and a really benign smile on his face...am readying my response. This time it'll be "Many many thanks man!"

ha ha ha ha.. i hear ya! I have a fake birthday too.. 18th Jan too!! Altho my real one is 18th June - I always put my real one on work and friend thingies.. only the passport has the fake. Jan doesnt feel birthday'ish..to me, i need the summer, holidays, madness for the celebration. but in junior school I HAD to celebrate on 18th and that felt totally fake! what up with parents getting their kids outta their hands..mine made me skip 1st grade. like they mistakenly had me admitted to the second grade after kg. I blame them for not allowing me to learning the hindi alphabet properly!

so you understand my agony, partially...

and, birthdays for me means, rains, thunder, lightning, croaking frogs, my father playing 'malhar' on his violin, noone coming to my birthday party because of the rains etc etc. (thanks for making me remember things, i had forgotten long ago)

Everyone BEWARE my birthday .............

I have no fake birthday to share the burden of the terror of my birth-date with :)

since my parents had no intention of faking my birthday and contrarily insisted on enrolling me into a school which actually started their academic calender three months before all others, I have been a year older for my class throughout :) ........... but I must thank them for it, coz I have enjoyed most of the moments of my life since then ........... and can't dare to even contemplate that my life could have been any different, even though it has forced me to be a Creon many a times ........ enjoy the play!!!
